Conversion Tools

Most of us convert things on a daily basis, whether it is ASCII to EBCDIC, a JPG to a TIFF, or a Julian date to a Gregorian date. These are the best tools I have found for such conversions. They fall into 2 categories, On-Line Conversion Tools and Application Conversion Tools. The Application Conversion Tools, which range in simplicity from Apple TextEdit to Adobe PhotoShop, tend to be Macintosh-centric, simply because that platform has many such tools native too OS X.

Carnegie Melon University has an excellent online tool which will convert a file, either from your hard drive or on an HTTP server. The files it can convert from and to are numerous, inclusing Acrobat, Binhex, Excel, GIF, JPG, MacBinary, TIFF, Word & lots more. Iconv has a variety of conversion tools, but it's not as convenient as a one-stop shop like CMU has.
