Keyboard Shortcuts: Gmail

Also – the significance of thechevrons displayed by some messages in the inbox:
2 chevrons: The message was sent only to me.
1 chevron: The message was sent explicitly to me, as well as others.
0 chevrons: The message came from a mailing list.

Compose new message.

C

Compose new message in a new window.

/

Search – Places the cursor in the search box.

k

Move to newer conversation. Then <Enter> to expand the conversation.

j

Move to older conversation. Then <Enter> to expand the conversation.

n

Next message.

p

Previous message.

o or Enter

Open your conversation.

o or Enter

Conversation view: Expands or collapses a message.

u

Return to inbox.

u

Conversation view: Returns to conversation list.

y

Inbox view: Archive

y

Starred view: Unstar

y

Spam view: Unspam and move to inbox.

y

Trash view: Move to inbox.

y

Label view: Remove the label.

x

Select a conversation.

s

Star a message or conversation.

!

Report spam: Mark the message as spam and remove it from the conversation list.

r

Reply.

R

Reply in a new window.

a

Reply to all.

A

Reply to all in a new window.

f

Forward the message.

F

Forward the message in a new window.

Esc

Removes the cursor from your current input field.

Tab then Enter

After composing your message, use this combination to automatically send it.

y then o

Archive the conversation and move to the next one.

g then a

Go to All Mail view.

s then s

Go to Starred view.
