X

Force OS X startup (If 9 is on the same disk)

Opt+Cmd+Shf+Del

Bypass primary startup volume and seek a different startup volume (such as a CD or external disk)

C

Boot from a CD with a System Folder

N

Attempt to start up from a compatible network server (NetBoot)

R

Force PowerBook screen reset

T

Start up in FireWire Target Disk mode

Shf

start up in Safe Boot mode and temporarily disable login items and non-essential kernel extension files (Mac OS X 10.2 and later)

Cmd+V

Start up in Verbose mode. Also results in verbosity during logout & shutdown.

Cmd+S

Start up in Single-User mode (Unix command line)

D

Start from the first partition

Opt

Shows icons of all startup disks, so you can choose one for starting up.

Cmd+Opt+P+R

Zaps the parameter RAM (PRAM). Hod down until the second chime.

Cmd+Opt++O+F

Brings up Open Firmware screen

Mouse Down

Ejects a stuck CD or DVD

Shift

After powering up; turns off kernel extensions. Later, after logging in, prevents Finder windows and starup items from opening.

Working With Text

Ctl+A

Moves the insertion point to the beginning of the paragraph.

Ctl+B

Move the insertion point one character to the left.

Ctl+D

Delete the single character to the right of the insertion point.

Ctl+E

Move the insertion point to the end of the paragraph.

Ctl+F

Move the insertion point one character to the left.

Ctl+K

Delete all text between the insertion point and the end of the line.

Ctl+N

Move the insertion point down 1 line (but the down arrow key is easier)

Ctl+O

Similar to the Return key, this creates a paragraph break, but leaves the insertion point at the end of the original paragraph.

Ctl+P

Move the insertion point up 1 line (but the up arrow key is easier)

Ctl+T

Transpose the character to the left of the insertion mark with the character to the right.

Opt+Del

Delete the partial or full word to the left or right (depending on which delete key you use) of the insertion point.

Opt+LfArrow

Move insertion point to the left of the immediate word.

Opt+RtArrow

Move insertion point to the right of the immediate word.

Cmd+LfArrow

Move the insertion point to the left end of the current line.

Cmd+RtArrow

Move the insertion point to the right end of the current line.

Cmd+Shf+LfArrow

Select all text between the insertion point and the left end of the current line.

Cmd+Shf+RtArrow

Select all text between the insertion point and the right end of the current line.

Shf+Opt+LfArrow

Select full or partial text of the word to the left of the insertion point.

Shf+Opt+RtArrow

Select full or partial text of the word to the right of the insertion point.
