Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence (n) A pattern of physically, sexually, and/or emotionally abusive behaviors used by one individual to maintain power over or control a partner in the context of an intimate or family relationship.

Domestic and family violence happens when a person tries to control their partner or other family members. The controlling behaviour can include assault, threats, sexual abuse, humiliation (put downs), financial exploitation and social isolation, such as not allowing contact with family or friends. Victims of violence may live in fear for themselves and their children even when they have left an abusive relationship.
